BUILDING THE BASE: SECONDARY ELA

Audience:

English Language Arts and Secondary Literacy teachers in grades 6–12 that want to engage English Learners in rigorous content while developing their academic language practices.

Goal:

To develop teacher expertise to understand and enact the theory and practice of providing English Learners with high challenge, high support content instruction.

​

You will learn to:

• Understand the ever-shifting context against which education takes place and what it means to provide English Learners with opportunities that develop their potential to become critical, productive citizens

• Engage in disciplinary lesson exemplars that provide high expectations coupled with high support

• Designing well-scaffolded lessons that address key standards

• Develop students’ academic uses of English in the disciplines
