Promoting Equity for Long Term English Learners

Objective:

To develop educator expertise to design and implement high-challenge and high-support instruction for 6th-12th grade long-term English Learners.

 

Participants will:

• Understand how to develop long-term English Learners’ capacity to read, discuss, and write about a wide variety of genres and content areas

• Learn how to build enticing, challenging, and deliberately supported opportunities to develop their oracy

• Develop expertise in engaging long-term English Learners in close and careful reading of texts by participating in authentic performance tasks

• Engage students in critical, motivating writing

• Use the QTEL approach to design lessons unit that incorporate multiple scaffolding tasks that accelerate the overall development of long-term English Learners
