Dear Colleagues, This week we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Quality Teaching for English Learners Summer Institutes in Washington D.C., which were to take place from August 3 to August 7, 2020. We are committed to the well-being of our partners, staff, and community and will follow municipal guidelines regarding restrictions on large gatherings and social distancing. Hosting close to 100 educators in Washington D.C. in August, does not seem advisable at this time. However, we remain committed to being your thought partner in the design and implementation of quality learning opportunities for English Learners. With that in mind, we are happy to announce a virtual learning opportunity that can bring us together this summer to build capacity and re-imagine education for English Learners. "QTEL Series: Aída Walqui in Conversation with World Scholars on the Education of Multilingual Learners" has been conceptualized as a way of providing educators, in the United States and abroad, the opportunity to learn from linguists and educators who have devoted their scholarship to the education of English Learners and issues of multilingualism. The series includes multiple sessions that will take place during July and August and will be hosted by Aída Walqui with the participation of national and international scholars representing a wide variety of interests in the field.
