Rarely are educators offered coherent and situated professional learning opportunities to support English Learners as well as their teachers. Quality professional development (PD) focused on supporting English Learners is often the least available for most educators, especially at a time when the number of teachers prepared to support English Learners is decreasing.
Join Pía Castilleja to learn how working with a team of expert practitioners at different levels at the School District of Philadelphia has multiplied PD opportunities for educators by capitalizing on the power of quality teaching for English Learners in Philadelphia classrooms.
By showcasing how lesson-design practices and implementation are leveraged to develop quality learning opportunities for multilingual students by strengthening existing curricular resources, participants will experience examples of math, English language arts, and social studies lessons that reflect a coherent approach to teaching multilingual learners. They will also offer lessons learned by the presenters to maximize the impact of their lesson-development practices through PD developed by and for classroom teachers.
