Curriculum Design: Amplifying English Learners’ Quality Engagement in Disciplinary Practices*
Target Audience: Secondary teachers of English Learners, teacher leaders, and instructional coaches who have previously attended a QTEL Building the Base institute.
Objective: To develop the ability of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and English Language Development teachers to design learning opportunities that deliberately invite and support English Learners’ engagement in subject-specific disciplinary practices.
Reconsider the principles and theoretical assumptions implicated in deliberately crafting lessons and units of study that both invite, support, and challenge students as they engage in productive, disciplinary activity.
Develop expertise in guiding teachers on the design and implementation of well- scaffolded lessons for English Learners.
Learn to modify lessons to deepen student academic development in subject-specific literacy and oracy practices.
*Pre-requisite: Having completed a QTEL Building the Base institute
