SCAFFOLDING ENGLISH LEARNERS’ WRITING OF EXPOSITORY AND ARGUMENTATIVE TEXTS*

Objective:

To develop participants’ expertise to engage their students in deep learning of writing expository and argumentative texts.

 

Participants will:

  • Understand how to develop English Learners’s capacity to write through collaborative writing activities which promote discussion and the reading of texts

  • Explore ways to engage students in the Curriculum Cycle and a Functional Model of Language

  • Develop expertise in engaging English Learners in writing assignments that include a variety of audiences, purposes, and genres

  • Develop students’ critical eye as they revisit their own writing to improve it

  • Use the QTEL approach to design lessons that provide English Leaners opportunities to generate their own texts

*Pre-requisite: Having completed a QTEL foundational institute
