LEADERSHIP IN ENGLISH LEARNER EDUCATION

This institute is focused on building leadership expertise to lead systemic change that supports quality education for English Learners and all other students. Some of the topics to be discussed in this institute include:

 

• An ecological model of schooling that explores the nested and interconnected systems that determine student success

• How to support educators to design structures and processes that support equity and excellence for children and adults

• How to create a school-wide culture of high challenge, high support instruction which weaves the development of conceptual, analytical and language practices seamlessly

• The critical role of advocacy to ensure equity and quality

• How to address the diverse needs of English Learners (newcomers, long-term English Learners, students with interrupted schooling) as well as those of students for whom English Is their family language
