OVERVIEW

In this institute participants engage in lessons and tasks that foster simultaneous language, literacy, and content development specifically designed for elementary students.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
​
Educators of English Learners in grades K-5 who wish to develop a firm foundation of theoretical understandings and corresponding strategies needed to apprentice young learners into disciplinary practices and academic uses of English.

Participants will:

Deepen knowledge of the shifts needed in the education of elementary level English Learners and what these shifts entail

Build capacity in enacting high challenge, high support K-5 lessons that weave conceptual, analytical and language practices seamlessly

Develop expertise in designing standards-aligned lessons in three moments to engage all English Learners in active participation that build their autonomy

Learn how to design spiraling units of thematic instruction which revisit central practices and build student learning skills and stamina

Understand how to work with a variety of age appropriate texts presented in multiple formats
