LESLIE HAMBURGER
Vice President for K–12 Systems

 

Leslie Hamburger serves as Vice President for K–12 Systems leading the English Learners and Migrant Education, Quality Schools and Districts, and Assessment for Learning Content Areas at WestEd. She leads large scale professional development, technical assistance, research, and evaluation projects to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for diverse student populations.

As leader of the Quality Teaching for English Learners initiative, she assists states, districts and schools in the development and implementation of exemplary educational programs for Multilingual Learners and designs professional development to enhance the expertise of educators to promote the development of disciplinary, analytic, and language practices in tandem.

She serves as co-Investigator of the Reimagining and Accelerating Mathematics Participation, Understanding, and Practices (RAMP-UP) Study for the National Research and Development Center to Improve Education for Secondary English Learners (R305C200008).

Her areas of expertise include English Learners pedagogy, mathematics curriculum and instruction, and professional learning for teachers of Multilingual Learners. She has been a school and district administrator in high-poverty, diverse schools, and a mathematics educator in secondary schools.

Hamburger holds an MA in educational leadership from San Jose State University.
