DEVELOPING LINGUISTICALLY & CULTURALLY DIVERSE STUDENTS

On November 30th, 2016, Aída Walqui will give the keynote address at the The NYSED Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages’ First Annual English Language Learners/Multilingual Learners Literacy Conference: Developing Linguistically & Culturally Diverse Students.

In her keynote presentation, Realizing the potential of all our English Learners, Dr. Walqui will discuss the different types of English Learners, the strengths they take to school, and their immense potential. Optimal education for ELs and its components will be examined, as well as the barriers which stand in the way of their deep and accelerated development. Building from recent research and publications, she will propose key shifts the field needs to undertake in order to assist all ELs become who they are not yet: fully multilingual, intercultural, multiliterate and socially responsible citizens.
