
Middle schoolers transitioning to high school need ambitious opportunities to learn mathematics, which means educators must offer strong support. For English Learners, these opportunities simultaneously support their language development to describe and explain mathematical concepts.
In this in-person and online workshop, Haiwen Chu will present findings and activities related to a summer bridge that challenges and supports English Learners to engage with cross-cutting concepts and practices with their peers. Participants will experience firsthand some activities and learn about the evidence from research that the intervention positively impacts English Learners' math achievement.
