Don’t miss Kathia Romo at the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) 2025 Conference. At this year’s conference, Kathia will lead a session that actively engages participants in an elementary jigsaw science lesson focused on biomes and habitats.

A key challenge in the Spanish dual-language classroom is helping multilingual students find their voice within the learning community. Many of these students are also English Learners, so enhancing their voice can boost engagement in English and other subjects.

Jigsaw projects are well-documented for promoting equity and high-quality interactions among students. Kathia's session will explore the theoretical foundations of these projects based on sociocultural learning theory. Participants will engage in a jigsaw-based lesson on biomes tailored for the Spanish dual-language classroom, followed by a reflection on how these methods can promote equity and collaborative knowledge construction.

The goal is to emphasize equity, student voice, and meaningful interactions, equipping educators to use engaging teaching tasks that deepen understanding and support language development.

We look forward to seeing you on March 29 at 10:45 am at the Long Beach Convention Center, Room 204.
