Senior Program Associate

Melanie Packham is a Senior Program Associate on the English Learner and Migrant Education Services (ELMES) team at WestEd. Packham supports a range of district initiatives aimed at increasing access and equity for English Learners and migratory students. These efforts include supporting schools in implementing the CA English Language Development Standards, The WIDA English Language Development Standards, and the CA ELA/ELD Framework in tandem with the Common Core State Literacy and Math Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Packham develops and facilitates professional learning, provides technical assistance, demonstrates lessons, and supports and coaches administrators and their staffs, ensuring that implementation and coaching are done with fidelity.

Prior to joining WestEd in 2014, Packham served as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, Reading Recovery Teacher, and family and caregiver advocate for 18 years in diverse California school district with an English Learner population that exceeds the state average.
