Name of Workshop: Designing Learning Opportunities to Maximize Learning for English Learners

Description: When designing learning experiences in mathematics, we often focus on the what: the content to be explored. When working with English Learners, the how is particularly important as students develop conceptual, analytic and disciplinary language practices in tandem. Designing instruction that has a focus on language is fundamental to the success of English Learners. Participants in this session will explore key principles of quality practice with English Learners and learn how to design learning experiences that challenge and support English Learners by structuring peer interactions and focusing on language.
