Teaching and Leading

As educators, it’s our job to ensure that the curriculum we teach provides high-challenge, high-support learning opportunities for all students, including Multilingual Learners (MLs).

This means that we need to take an analytical eye to our curriculum. You can use this QTEL Curriculum Review Tool to guide you and/or a group of educators to consider and discuss the strengths and needs of a particular unit or an entire curriculum. Should this curriculum be used with MLs or not? How might a particular unit need to be amplified to ensure quality learning opportunities for the Multilingual Learners in your classroom?

Consider using this tool at the start of a unit to support your brainstorming process with colleagues about how to amplify the unit for English Learners or use this tool as a holistic way to think critically about a curriculum. We hope this tool helps you and your colleagues engage critically and creatively with your curricula and each other!

Upcoming Opportunities

Elevating Access in Master Scheduling E-Series

Students identified as English Learners are sometimes placed in courses that do not match their academic potential due to challenges in scheduling processes. The Elevating Access in Master Scheduling E-Series is designed to help school and district teams use master scheduling as a tool to support English Learners’ participation in grade-level coursework, language development programs, and graduation pathways.

This four-part professional learning series provides practical strategies to improve scheduling systems, enhance registration conversations, and align staffing and course offerings with student needs. It is intended for counselors, school staff, principals, and district or local education agency administrators.

Session 1 starts April 28, so register now! https://tinyurl.com/yc79d3fb
