School's Out for Summer!
Congratulations on making it through another school year! As you move into vacation mode, we encourage you to celebrate your wins and to focus on doing things that will help you recharge.
If you need a good beach read, we recommend the second edition of Amplifying the Curriculum: Designing Quality Learning Opportunities for Multilingual Learners, edited by Aída Walqui, George C. Bunch, and Peggy Mueller. This book focuses on how educators can design learning opportunities for Multilingual Learners that balance high challenge with high support. The book's discipline-specific chapters offer clear guidance for designing lessons and units and provide concrete examples of rigorous and supportive instruction in math, science, English language arts, social studies, and elementary.
It’s also not too late to sign up for the QTEL Summer Institutes in Santa Cruz, CA, Seal Beach, CA, and Austin, TX. This is a great opportunity to join colleagues from around the country to build community while also building expertise to engage English Learners and all other students in deep, generative learning.
If you’re already thinking about next year, check out our Professional Learning Communities Book Study courses. Each course includes six modules that you and your team can facilitate within your school’s professional learning community or as before- or after-school book study sessions. With your colleagues, you will read each chapter of a selected book with a focus, discuss it through the provided structured activities, and develop applications to practice.
Enjoy your summer and remember the QTEL team is always here as a support, so you can reach out any time!
